I have been an independent consultant since 1990, providing consultancy and training services to a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations, local authorities, government bodies. I have undertaken a wide variety of assignments including strategic and structural reviews, board and staff development, research and feasibility studies. My publications include reports on policy and service provision for marginalised communities and groups such as refugees and the street homeless.
I have wide-ranging experience of providing individual consultancy to chief executives, directors and senior staff in the voluntary sector and to other consultants. I have been a visiting lecturer in the Psychology and Business Studies departments of three universities.
My experience and understanding of groups and organisations has developed over the last twenty five years. I have been a member and facilitator of on-going analytic groups and completed courses in organisational behaviour at the Grubb Institute, the Tavistock Clinic and the Institute of Group Analysis and been a director/staff member on group relations conferences.
I practiced for many years as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and this informs my understanding of complex intra-personal and interpersonal dynamics and processes.
I have extensive experience working with refugee and migrant communities both as a therapist and as a consultant. I have an in-depth appreciation of the particular and complex challenges faced by individuals and organisations in this sector.
The early part of my career included working in a large local authority where I was jointly responsible for the development and training of 500 staff. I am a past Chair of Youthaid, the Inner City Centre and London Centre of Psychotherapy, and have served on the management committees of a number of voluntary organisations.
